HELMINTH INFECTIONS AND CANCER
In this thematic line, we propose a collaborative approach that integrates laboratory- and field-based studies in endemic populations in East Asia, Eurasia and Africa on unique and shared pathways towards malignancy. Our goal is to characterise proteins/metabolites secreted by carcinogenic helminths, their oncogenic attributes, and inflammatory processes, including unchecked DNA damage, relentless cycles of tissue wounding and repair, cancer-signalling pathways. We will strive to uncover actionable leads for intervention for helminth infection-induced malignancy.
